Pszichedelia és jazz: ridgeclub a Turbinában
Ridgeclub looperek, digitális hangeffektek és a szaxofonja segítségével alkot izgalmas, hömpölygő dalokat. A torontói jazzszaxofonos márciusban adta ki első kislemezét, azóta pedig folyamatosan jelentkezik újabb szerzeményekkel, amelyeket havonta közel 4 millióan hallgatnak Spotify-on. Izgalmas kreációi szavak nélkül is magukkal rántanak, élőben pedig különösen magával ragadó, ahogy virtuóz módon építi fel a dalok rétegeit. Ezt pedig hamarosan mi is megtapasztalhatjuk ridgeclub első magyarországi fellépésén, november 6-án, a Turbina Kulturális Központban.
ridgeclub fő inspirációi a jazz-fusion világa, valamint olyan előadók, mint Flying Lotus és Sam Gendel. Hiphopproducerek – például Clams Casino és Madlib – munkássága is nagy hatással van rá. Családja dél-indiai származású, így az indiai klasszikus zene dallamvilága szintén felfedezhető kompozícióiban.
Márciusban megjelent első kislemeze, a where am i supposed to go? egy lassú, atmoszférikus instrumentális szám, amely azt a vegyes érzést jeleníti meg, amikor valaki a múltjában rekedve próbál reményt találni a jövőre nézve. Azóta hat dalt adott ki, amelyekben hasonlóan megjelenik a reménytelenség, a gyász és a szabadság érzése. Ötödik kislemeve, a do i clench my fists? hat hónap alatt több mint 50 millió lejátszást ért el a digitális streamingplatformokon. Dalai azonban élőben a legerősebbek, így nem érdemes kihagyni magyarországi bemutatkozását november 6-án, a Turbinában. ridgeclub creates immersive, flowing pieces using loopers, digital effects and his saxophone. The Toronto-based jazz saxophonist released his debut single in March and has been steadily releasing new music ever since, now reaching nearly four million monthly listeners on Spotify. His evocative creations draw listeners in without the need for words, while his live performances are especially captivating as he virtuously builds each song layer by layer. Hungarian audiences will soon be able to experience this first-hand at ridgeclub’s debut show in the country on November 6 at Turbina Cultural Centre.
ridgeclub draws inspiration from the world of jazz fusion and artists such as Flying Lotus and Sam Gendel. The work of hip-hop producers including Clams Casino and Madlib has also had a major influence on his sound. Coming from a South Indian family, elements of Indian classical music and its melodic language can also be heard in his compositions.
Released in March, his debut single, where am i supposed to go?, is a slow, atmospheric instrumental that captures the conflicted feeling of being stuck in the past while still searching for hope in the future. He has since released six songs exploring similarly themes of hopelessness, grief and freedom. His fifth single, do i clench my fists?, surpassed 50 million streams across digital platforms in just six months.
